Yvonne was drawn to community organizing after being frustrated as a social worker in the corrections and mental health system and as a young activist in the Chicano/Native and Latino Community. Before founding Sixth Sun Consulting, Yvonne worked as a lead organizer at Metro Organizations for People (MOP). As a community organizer Yvonne has worked on numerous education, housing and immigration campaigns.
In the fall Yvonne taught at the University of Denver where she graduated with her master's degree in Social Work in 2000. She will also spend time focusing on building effective allies in the immigrant rights movement with the American Friends Service Committee where she serves as a board member. |
